Sonia Navarro

Sonia Navarro (Puerto Lumbreras, Murcia, 1975) is an artist who combines sculpture, installation, photography and drawing to address power, gender and labour memory issues. Her

training in Fine Arts and Photography is supplemented by an initial apprenticeship in sewing and tailoring inherited from her grandmothers, a key element in her practice.

Through textile materials and techniques, her work confronts the institutional mechanisms that have historically associated women with domestic work and lack of mobility, reflecting on the social structures that perpetuate these hierarchies. She has received recognitions such as a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome and the Visual Arts Award from the Ministry of Culture.

Her work has been showcased at institutions such asPatio Herreriano Museum, the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome and the Cerezales Foundation, as well as galleries such as T20, Rafael Ortiz or Vilaseco, and is part of collections such as that of Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
