Júlia Martins Miranda

Biography

Júlia Martins Miranda is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is anchored in the exploration of memory, cultural identity, and belonging. Drawing inspiration from the rich traditions of Brazilian poetry, music, and storytelling, Miranda’s vibrant compositions evoke the warmth, color, and rhythms of her homeland. Her work spans multiple mediums, with a particular focus on painting, where she navigates the intersection of personal and collective histories to create pieces that serve as both homage and remembrance.

Now based in Sicily, Miranda works from her studio to reimagine Brazilian cultural traditions through the lens of distance. In this space of removal, Brazil becomes more than a memory—it is reconstructed and transformed. Her paintings filter the iconographies, sounds, and sensations of her homeland through time and place, resulting in a visual language that oscillates between nostalgia and the invention of new myths. This process of reinvention imbues her art with a sense of longing and renewal.

Miranda’s formal training at the prestigious Nuova Academia di Belle Arti in Milan, Italy, informs her distinctive style. Her paintings often feature simplified forms and stylized depictions of plants, trees, and landscapes. Echoes of Matisse and Gauguin can be detected in her approach, yet her vision is resolutely her own. Rather than striving for photographic realism, she seeks to capture the essence of a place or a feeling, producing work that is both modern and timeless. Through this unique perspective, Miranda continues to expand the dialogue around identity, memory, and the enduring power of cultural roots.
