Karimah Hassan

Biography
"Paintings are portals, after all - to a moment, a memory, an imagination, or a dream
that one day becomes a memory."

Karimah Hassan

Karimah Hassan is a multidisciplinary artist whose vibrant practice explores the intersections of cultural memory, spiritual consciousness, and community storytelling. Born in Wales to Yemeni and Bangladeshi heritage and now based in London, Karimah draws deeply from her multicultural background to create large-scale paintings, murals, and installations that challenge traditional narratives while honouring ancestral wisdom.

With an MA in Architecture from the Royal College of Art, Karimah brings a distinctive spatial sensibility to her work, informed by principles of light, scale, and human interaction. Her art moves fluidly between the studio, the street, and public spaces—blurring the boundaries between street art, fine art, and community art. Through live painting events and participatory showcases, she fosters environments where art becomes a catalyst for genuine connection.

Karimah’s bold, expressive aesthetic has garnered recognition from leading institutions and brands, including Selfridges London, The Standard New York, The Barbican, Burberry, and the Sarabande Foundation by Alexander McQueen. Her acclaimed series, The Strangers Yearbook—now permanently installed at King’s Cross—reflects her commitment to collective storytelling and the power of shared experience.

Whether on canvas or in the heart of the city, Karimah’s work is rooted in the lived experiences of diverse communities, continually pushing the boundaries of contemporary art.
